Poor boy degasser, also called mud gas separately, it is a normal equipment in mud solids control system for onshore and offshore rigs. We can see from the name, the main function of poor boy degasser is to separate gas from drilling mud. There normally big quality air bubble in the drilling mud. The air bubble may damage the solids control equipment, like mud cleaner, desander, desilter. Another reason, and the most important reason, there normally dangerous gas consisted in the air bubble, if it is comes out with mud and spread the environment, it will make pollution and hurt the operation people at jobsite.

Design 1: Atmosphere type poor boy degasser
Features of Atmosphere type poor boy degasser: there will be 5~10 m or more longer vent line on top of poor boy degasser. It is used to pipe the gas into the atmosphere directly. 

Design 2: Ignition type poor boy degasser
Features of Ignition type poor boy degasser: Ther dangerous gas in drilling mud is H2S. It is combustible gas. After fire, it changes out to harmless gas and can be discharged directly. There will be 50m ~ 100m vent line to guide the gas to remote area. There will be a flare igniter connected with the vent line and fire the gas while it comes out.

The problems and solutions about shaker screen

Shaker screen blinding takes place while particles of solids being screened embed in a screen hole. This usually appears while drilling fine sands , for instance, in the Gulf of Mexico. The right after sort order is observed in the course of screen blinding.

1.  When a brand-new screen is set up, the circulation drilling fluid drops through the screen for a short distance.
2.  After a period of time, the fluid endpoint moves to the end of the shale shaker.
3.  In a very short time this happens, the screens are changed to get rid of the fast discharge of drilling mud from the end of the shaker.
4.  Soon after the screens have been washed, fine grains of sand which are lodged on the screen's surface can be discovered. The surface area of the screen will resemble fine sand paper because of the sand particles lodged in the openings.

One common approach to the problem to screen blinding is to change to a finer or coarser screen that the one being blinded. This strategy is effective if the sand which is being drilled has a narrow size distribution. Another method is to change to are rectangular-shaped screen, although rectangular screens can also blind with multiple grains of sand.

Blinding – the “plastering” of a soft material over and in the mesh, rendering it blocked. Remedy wash with high pressure fluid using the base fluid of the drilling fluid. If this fails, fit coarser screens temporarily.
Plugging – the blocking of the mesh by a particle (usually sand)  fitting into the pore throat of the mesh. Remedy - wash with high pressure fluid using the base fluid of the drilling fluid. This is best done from beneath the screen . It is often successful to place a fine screen on to reduce the “near size” plugging.

Augers Screw Conveyors for Waste Management System

In a complete waste management system in a drilling mud recycling,  besides the main equipment for treating the drilling cuttings like vertical cuttings dryers and decanter centrifuge, one equipment cannot be ignored, which is screw conveyor, or called as auger. This is ideal equipment for conveying the drilling cuttings from the solids control system to the first equipment.
Always there are 2 sets of screw conveyors needed, one is horizontal, for collecting the drilling cuttings from the solids control systems solids discharges. The other is a bit slope, to convey the cuttings into the waste management system. GN Solids Control provide such augers, and GNSC series augers have such benefits:
1.      GNSC screw conveyors are designed as 12ft sections, each section has same length. So it is easy for the end user to keep the spare parts. First section has the motor while the last section has the frame to hoist the screw. The sections in the middle could be disassembled per job site condition.
2.      GNSC screw conveyors use abrasive material for screws in order to ensure a longer service life.
3.      Connections between each section, the shells are connected with bolts, while at screws’ joints there are hanger bearings.
4.      There are covers used on the conveyors to avoid foreign bodies to enter the conveying system. Such application also good for safety control for operators.
5.      GN has another type of screw conveyor available, shell shaped like a hopper, that is used for receiving the materials from truck or something.
